WELCOME TO RURAL READERS
Finally over the past few weeks these pages did mature and became ready for publishing. Still a lot to be done, but it´s a beginning! What is finished at the present stage is the Tippen map and the expeditionmovie in the Reading Finnmark section, and also a prereading of what will happen in the Calcutta section. Over the next months Reading Finnmark will grow with readings of Skogfoss in Pasvik and the projection and buildingplan of a railroad from Kirkenes to Nikkel, Russia. A translation of the Tippen map is also in progress. The future of rural reading looks bright. Have a nice trip, and feel free to mail your comments to us.

A HARD FACT
War is a hard fact.
Take a look at the photos by
the photojournalist Peter Turnley.
They're all taken during the gulf war.

THE HOURS, THE BARBER AND THE ALPHABET
Plinius the Elder's thoughts didn't only deal with nature and elephants.
He did many etnological generalizations too. This one is strange and supreme - it
deals with three factors on which accordance between people is based.
1. The adoption of the alphabet (the greek and latin).
2. The way the barber shaves maschile faces.
3. The notation of the hours of the day - in the solar watch.

MAXIMUM EST ELEPHAS
The medieval 'Naturalis Historia' by
Plinius the Elder is a fantastic rural reading.
A 37 volume ancient millionology about nature. In this summary of nature -
volume VIII is one of the excemplaric.
It deals with mammals on the earth.
It starts with the elephant.
This creatures receives the longest chapter
among all animals.
This book - and this chapter starts with the phrase:
"Maximum est elephas proximumque humanis sensibus."
The elephant is the closest to the humans, spiritually.
The 37 volumes of Plinio is highly recommended in the rural library.

HORIZONTAL FLIPPERS
In the fifties game halls of Japan were based on the concept of horizontality.
You could sit and play flipper.
In Europe you had to stand.
In Japan you sat looked down -
into the flipper-game.
In Europe flippers were on walls.
Today it's another story.

- A short (and rather confusing) reading
of the schisma east-west.

SAND, SOUND AND SNOW
In the world there are several glimpses of the reality.
Among these there are several rural readings.
We can recommend you to take a plane to Bergen Kunsthall, Bergen, Norway.
Or look here. There the Italian photographer Massimo Vitali is exposed.
Vitali is one of the foremost readers of the
humankind today: the human masses in interaction with sand, sound and snow.
Worth both the flight, the reading and the look.

The skogfoss map is under construction and will feature sound and videoclips from the meeting between Abraham and Agnes Randa at Skogfoss, Pasvik and the rr-expedition, in addition to a discourse on the art of memory.

This blog was initiated 8/3-03. It will feature news on the development of the rr-page, and links to other rr-related and unrelated sites.
